3 Weeks, 2 Continents, 5 Countries…how much was our trip?

Many of you have asked how much did it cost us for our crazy 3 weeks trip through 2 continents and 5 countries? I did the cost breakdown for you to show you that it is doable if you plan in advance! Note that the cost is for 2 people in USD and for some of the hotels in Morocco and Italy, we split among 3 of us so I did the calculation for 2 people. Your trip can be cheaper or more expensive depending on the hotel and room type; I “splurged” for some nice suites in Morocco (very inexpensive) and in Italy to fit more than 2 of us. I booked most of the hotels through cheaptickets.com as it constantly offering 18% coupon, don’t forget to click through cashback portal such as mrrebates.com for addition % cashback (see my post on “Travel Tips” on the menu bar for details on how to save). I did not include some taxi cost and meals as they are relatively inexpensive except for in Switzerland!

  1. Incredible !

What I’d love to see is how you pack for a 3 week trip. You both look so fresh every day.

How many bags do you carry? How many dresses and pants/shorts etc? Do you do laundry often.

    Keep traveling and sharing.

    Blessings,
    Don

    1. That was the hardest part of our trip since we had to pack for 3 weeks and 3 seasons (cold in Switzerland, hot in Morocco, and spring in Italy) and we did 1 large check-in size luggage plus 1 medium “carry-on” size because the intra-Europe and Europe-Morocco flights had to pay extra for check baggage so we tried to minimize to one check bag only. My trick is to pack in layers – inner layer: a sleeveless top or tank top, middle layer – light sweater, outer layer – cardigan or jacket. We only did laundry once in Morocco and that was in the hotel (very inexpensive for a bag of clothes). I rolled my clothes to save space, you can read about how I usually pack: https://missvacation.wordpress.com/2016/07/24/all-about-packing/

I packed 3 jeans (included 1 wore to the airport), 3 sweaters (included 1 wore to the airport), 2 cardigans, 2 sleeveless tops, 1 short, 9 dresses, and 1 jacket hoodie (wore to the airport). Also, I packed plenty of tank tops so I can re-wear the sweaters as tank tops dry easily – leave them on the towel warmer overnight and will be dry the next morning!

Another useful thing is we bought fold-able duffel bag in case we buy souvenirs so we can hand-carry them home.

        1. Jason is always a last minute packer so he waited till I finished packing and then he pack whatever he can into the remaining spaces LOL. He wore a sweater hoodie with him on the plane, he packed around 5 jeans, 3 shirts, 2 polos, 6 T-shirts, and 4 shorts. He did some shopping in Amsterdam in his favorite store The Sting; he bought some clothes there. At the end of the trip, we filled the duffel bag with souvenirs wrapped around with his new clothes 🙂 You’ll be surprised how much you can utilize the space when you tightly rolled the clothes!

  2. This is a great post and very informative as not many people break the budget/ travel costs down for others. Your blog is by far my favourite travel blog to follow! Love all the places you choose to travel to, full of color & so much beauty :D.
